Default HUMMER H4 Concept To Be Unvieled At Detroit Auto Show

General Motors' Hummer brand will unveil an H4 concept vehicle in January at the Detroit auto show, sources close to the automaker say.

The vehicle would be a smaller truck that would compete with the Jeep Wrangler. A production version likely would be built for the 2010 model year.

GM is also working on an H3 pickup that would be available in the 2009 model year, sources say.

"They want to broaden the product lineup for Hummer because they have had quite a degree of success with the H3 SUV," says Erich Merkle, director of forecasting at IRN Inc. in Grand Rapids, Mich. "The H2, in this environment, is too large. It's overkill."

The H3 is built on the small-pickup architecture used by the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon. It is unclear what architecture GM would use for the H4, but a source says it will not be a front-wheel-drive architecture.

Unhappy

GM better not stop producing H2s! I'd like to see an H4, but not at a cost of losing the H2!!

The H4 sounds great, but the line is not worthy of the badge when the anchor is not around. Bring the H1 back and sales will go up on the other vehicles.

I Don't think so, The H1 is not coming back to due high gas prices.

Default it's comming back

What we now know as the H1 (alpha) is gone. AMG is working on a re-release of the original hummer 6.5 optimizer in 08. They have found a way to get it to meet epa standards. look for it to return without all the alpha mods at original hummer dealers like Lynch, etc.

It would sell if they made a non-alpha version again. The 06 alpha being the only option was a mistake. Porsche sells a ton of Cayenne's and only a few Cayenne Turbos. There is a small/select market for the Alpha and a larger market for the 30-50k less regular model.

That is what I am talking about. 06 should have had both options. The reason it didn't you ask? Military had too many on order and they have to shhut shop down for one month just to convert the tooling to do civilian models. The Optimizer is a great engine and I know they are constantly tweaking it. I am sure the 08 H1 will be a great machine. (Hoping)
