I am looking at the new H3 and was wondering if the gas mileage would be better than my Hemi Ram. Anything probably has better mileage but I bought it when gas prises were 1.39 a gallon. Please let me know. I also read the power is lacking but if you put a more powerful engine in it won't the mileage get worse??
Please let me know, thanks.

They are rated at about 19/20 per gallon on the highway. I haven't put enough miles on mine yet to confirm, but other Hummer sites seem to support this.

I traded my F-150 Lightning (supercharged) in on the H3. I went from 9mpg in the Lightning, to about 15mpg in the H3. :D

I rented an H3 in July for a roadtrip vacationi with my wife and we calculated at every gas station and put 4800 miles on it in 2 weeks. Our mileage was 19-20 when we were in states with 65mph traveling at 70, and about 16-17 when travling at 80.
I was disappointed with the power when we first had it in the mountains of Colorado where we live. I travel a lot between mountain regions and need some power.
We test drove a manual tranmission last week and found it had more power and I am looking forward to leasing one next week. I want to know more about after market turbo add on and other ways to gain power.

I think alot of the fuel economy depends on how you drive and the conditions... like altitude etc. I've had my hummer 1 week and filled it up for the first time. Driving in Seattle traffic, I'm getting just under 19mpg... and thats with about 300 miles on the odometer.

Here are my results from St.Louis Missouri to Las Vegas Nevada.
The truck started with 7 miles on the odometer.
St.Louis to Columbia MO 105mls @ 16.4mpg
Columbia area "wheelin" 128mls @ 14.1mpg
Columbia MO to Vesper KS 345mls @ 18.6mpg
Vesper KS to Limon CO 297mls @ 16.8mpg
Limon CO to Bailey CO 141mls @ 16.3mpg
west of Denver "wheelin" 161mls @ 15.2mpg
Denver CO to Grand Junction CO 241mls @ 19.0mpg
Grand Junction to Beaver UT 293mls @ 18.1mpg
Beaver UT to Las Vegas NV 236mls @ 20.2mpg
I have 33" tires and roof mounted lights to add to the resistance. All highway miles were at 68-70mph even in the 75 zones. I am sure that the mpg would really suffer 5 miles faster than that.
So, it looks like the mileage keeps getting better and better. Maybe by xmas I will be getting 30mpg! I wish!
Let us all know how your trucks are doing.

Has anyone considered or already installed a
K&N Filter (http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=E-0773) or simular yet??..This may give you at least 4-5 MPG more, as I have found with my 02 Land Rover and 03 Jaguar...Just a thought ;)
Here is a dyno-chart (http://www.kandn.com/dynocharts/63-1095.pdf) for one of the K&N intake kits (P/N 63-1095)
for the 3.5L i5..

Hey Hippo,
I have been looking to purchase an H3 but still choosing over the gas mileage and power comparisons of a couple of other vehicles. In looking for non supercharger, safe solutions to increase mileage/power, I have been researching any tech that might apply. Below are a couple of interesting links. I spoke with the first company who has said they are coming out with a bolt-on consumer hydrogen fuel injection device soon for consumer combustion engines. Commercial testing already shows increased mileage, torque, efficiency. Basically the increased combustion efficiency delivers all of the above.

-Innovative Hydrogen Solutions by H2 En-Gen.

-Another company with Hydrogen Fuel Injection system. Not sure if they are going consumer anytime soon. 60 million miles of commercial testing done.
Cheers,

Hey Zoomer..
I'm sorta in the same boat as you on purchasing the H3...So far I'm still leaning in the H3's direction. ;)
Those Hydrogen devices are quite plauseable and it would be interesting to see and experience one in action..But my main concern would be if the Car's warranty could be voided if these modifications are too intrusive..
